AFSCME Voting

Happy early vote to those where voting has already begun and thank you for all of the work you are doing across the country to educate and mobilize members in this final push.

As we engage with members in the field, we are also preparing to launch GOTV mail and digital programs. This will include digital advertising, email, organic social and 4 direct mail pieces throughout October and early November to all AFSCME members, retirees, and household members with a Vote Choice Index score of 50+ in each of our targeted states and districts.

While we are doing some final testing to refine these messages, messaging will be within the three mobilization message lanes we have identified through previous research and shared with you in our AFSCME for Harris toolkit. Those are:

  • The well-being of our country depends on all of us. Standing together in unions to provide a better life for our families benefits everyone. If enough working people come together to vote, we can improve our economic well-being.
  • Americans value our freedoms. Belonging to a union is how we prevent extremist politicians from taking away those freedoms and trying to take us backwards by cutting our benefits. But freedom is about more than just getting by. It’s about the freedom to own a home, take a loved one to the doctor, or retire with dignity.  Let’s protect these things by exercising our freedom to vote.
  • There is more at stake in this election than ever before. If elected, extremists want to implement Project 2025. It would place the entire executive branch under the direct political control of the president, including historically independent agencies like the Department of Justice and the FBI. Thousands of government employees would be replaced by political appointees. We need to all vote to protect our democracy.

In our presidential target states ONLY (AZ, NV, GA, MI, PA, WI & NE) these programs will include messaging around Vice President Kamala Harris. In all other states, these programs will NOT reference the Vice President, or any other candidates or political parties. (Note – candidate-specific persuasion ads and mail will continue in our key U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and gubernatorial races where those are already moving, as our team has shared with you individually.)

Please let me know if you have any questions. While we hope to include as many members as possible in these communications, if you have any concerns or would like to opt out, the deadline to do so is Thursday, Oct 3 at 9am ET.
